Curriculum Vitae
Academic Career
Prof. Siemens devotes his full time to legal research, writing, speaking,
conducting seminars, and lecturing, and to international
arbitrations both as an arbitral panelist or as a sole arbitrator. He has carried out research on corporate law at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California; at the University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia; at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London, England; and at leading law institutions in Canada.
He is the author of the tremendously successful Directors' Liability in Canada published in 1994, the co-author of Directors' and Officers' Liability, a publication for the United States published in 1995, the author of Directors' Liability in Australia published in Sydney, Australia in 2001, and he has prepared a publication on Corporate Governance in the United
Kingdom, and presently is completing a publication entitled Corporate
Governance-Principles & Practices which will be available
in an e-book format online and on CD.
Prof. Siemens has lectured extensively on various areas of the
law, in Canada and in Europe, including lecturing to the legal
profession, and is a Professor of Business Law at several universities in Europe lecturing at the Masters level.
Most recently he was also a visiting professor in St. Petersburg,
Russia and in Rostock, Germany.
He is the founder of u-e-lectures.com which presents his
accredited MBA, EMBA, LL.M., and Juris Doctorus courses on
Corporate Governance and on Business Law to
various universities online. and which may be accessed by
subscribers worldwide via the Internet. Currently, he is preparing
a Masters level course on International Trade Law also for
delivery Online.
Legal Career
Prof. Siemens began his legal career as an air force Judge
Advocate in Ottawa, and after completing his law articles, entered
private law practice in Canada. As the senior partner of his firm
for some twenty years of practice, he has been counsel to numerous
corporate clients, including local counsel to several Canadian
chartered banks, trust companies, credit unions and foreign banks
doing business in western Canada. As counsel, he has appeared in
the Supreme Court of Canada, the Court of Appeal of British
Columbia, the Court of Queen's Bench in Alberta, and the lower
courts in British Columbia and Ontario. He has also conducted
arbitrations and he has held several corporate and non-profit
directorships.
He did his undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; his graduate law studies at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and his post-graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science of the University of London, in London, England.
